I would not buy a HYBRID if I could do it again
Although I am happy with the hybrid and what Honda is doing to help with the cost of the new battery, I think the cost of the battery and the synthetic oil changes outweigh the savings in gas. I do have 138,479 miles and average 46mpg and its about that time. The car is not 5 years old yet. Most of those miles are highway miles at 5:30am and 9pm when there is no sun to and from work. And sadly my battery is DEAD. The cost of the battery and labor by Honda is at $4,000. Luckily Honda is giving a $2400 voucher wich still puts me at $1600 + tax. But that is a one time voucher. At this rate thats another $4gs in the next 4 years. Thats $8gs. Thats probly what I saved in gas at that time. Nope, I didnt save that much is gas.

Have a look at Reinvolt.com . They will probably do it for much less? Not sure what part of the world you live in, so it may not be possible. H

Re: I would not buy a HYBRID if I could do it again
I like to save a buck just like the next guy. However, my philosophy in life is changing, as I become a geezer. I would gladly pay Honda, GM or any other American and/or friendly country for vehicles and vehicle parts. If buying a hybrid but spending a lot on repairs / parts meant that is was a wash, versus a more reliable, but crappier mpg car, I will take the hybrid. I would much rather have my coin go to the above companies, than the Middle East. Period. The world will be a better place when we can kiss that monkey on our back goodbye. Won't be in my lifetime, but we have to start moving in that direction, if we are ever going to evolve and rid ourselves of the terrorist-laden oil producing countries that we deal with.
