How much did you pay for your hybrid civic?
Used (only 3 months old at the time, but with ~9k miles on it) '05 CVT for $16,995 (before taxes, dealer fees and all that, all together I think we paid just over $18k). There was a typo in their ad, I think it was supped to be $20,995. Mwahahahaha! I stole that car. I bought it at the end of August (05) right when gas prices were going through the roof too.

I paid $1000 less than MSRP ($22,400) or $900 over invoice from Lumberton Honda. (Quincy Oxendine - Great Salesman). The 06 HCH II is MAG PEARL, no navi.
i feel stupid for saying this but in the bay area, i had to pay $2000 over msrp and they wouldn't budge. they did throw in the paint protection kit thing (plastic guards over the edges of the doors and wheel wells) worth $250 and a free month of insurance worth $350. however, i did get to drive the exact car i wanted right off the lot.

...$2k over? where did you go?tell me about it. honda of oakland. i haggled hard with them but they just refused to come down. they said the car wouldn't be on the lot more than the weekend so they just didn't have to haggle. the bay area and berkeley/oakland/san francisco in particular is just nuts when it comes to hybrids. a 2 year old used prius sells for as much as new ones. i looked at a used 05 prius with 60k miles on it before going hch.2 and the guy wanted $22k. i test drove it; told the guy i'd give him a call when i got home however when i got there he had left a message that he had already sold it. apparently, there was a buyer right behind me who had cash right there. crazy.
i think that all in all, the dealer's $2k markup is a way for them to really stick it to us, since in the back of our minds (and theirs) we think we're gonna get it back due to the federal tax rebate, so in the end, it's a "wash".
i still feel for you though.

I just bought my 2003 HCH with 21,000 Miles for $14,500. I wanted a new one but in Long Island NY, the dealers had a 1-3 month wait for the ones with Nav. I didnt want to wait, so I just looked to save a few bucks and get a used one with low miles.
