Do you think its possible for me to get 1,000 miles on this tank?
Facts:
1) I filled my tank up to the neck.
2) My trip OD is currently at 815 miles
3) I've got 3 bars left on my fuel guage
4) I'm getting just over 65MPG on this tank
5) I don't have a PZEV tank
6) I know its been done before https://www.greenhybrid.com/compare/...e/car/625.html but not quite at my mileage!
based on this thread https://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/...light=capacity WWJDRV "drove on no bars for about 150 miles (at 50ish mpg)" I'd say its possible.

The hard part is that every time the car cools off it will drop a bunch of bars and the milage will go down for a few minutes. If you can overcome the fact you will see zero bars a few times you can do it. How many miles is your commute?

You'd need to get 76 MPG (on a 13.2 gal tank) and run it dry. Possible, yes under some very specific conditions. I've gotten about that on 30 mile trips before, but there was an elevation drop from point A to B (essentially downhill, although slightly). The car is certainly capable of it - whether you'd find a stretch of road to do it on is another matter.

My commute is exactly 40 miles each way.
Home => Work: I can easily get over 70 MPG (usually around 72)
Work => Home: The best I've done is 65, but usually around 61
Round trip is indicative of my current average (a tad over 65) and I have been running with the AC off and gliding w/ the engine off during long downhills. I have a LOT of elevation changes on my commute.

If the tank can be OVERFILLED to 15.2 gallons (which has been reported on this site) and I end up averaging 65 MPG . . . 15.2 * 65 = 988 miles - close!
Fortunately, I pass a LOT of gas stations daily, but I don't want to be the sucker walking down the road with Hummer drivers laughing at me.
I'll post an update of how many miles I'm at when my low fuel light goes on!

I'm rooting for you but be careful. I'm in a final surge toward a record tank for my HCH as well (though a wee bit behind your goal; way to go!) and the last thing I want need plan to do is run dry.

If you were at 875 I'd say definetly!
But go for it anyway!
The gas gauge can really get flakey on the last 3 bars. Often (In my case) it drops from 3 to 1 pretty quick then none.
I'll drive another ~30 or so miles home and park it still with no bars.
The next day I'll get 2 blocks from home and suddenly I hae 2-3 bars again!
My wife commented on that once and all I could say was
"Of course, it's a hybrid!"

good news update . . . When I left work yesterday, I started her up and low and behold: I gained a bar!
40 miles home, and I still have 4 bars! I agree w/ HG - the gauge does get flakey.
Also, since I'm really focusing on this 1000 miles I set a personal best for my commute home: 68 MPG, so I'm thinking I'm in decent shape. I won't be driving her this weekend, as I have a NEED FOR SPEED, so next update Tuesday.
