Many thanks for your long thread. Now I am planning to have my long journey to fix the similar issue with my 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid.
I thought I had spent a good maintenance cost since I purchased this car. and thought saved fuel cost a lot... But after all, no in vain...

The quote below I received today... Gee huge cost in Australia $5,135.00 + labour
I have received the system error code while get servicing for miles 100,000km
P0A78 - Motor Power Inverter Internal Circuit Malfunction
P15A5 - Motor Current Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P1440 - Motor Power Inverter Module Output Circuit Malfunction

Appears all malfunctions are related to Circuit board so I suspect same invertor/converter issues.
Any good advise where I can start this long long fixing journey?

12 - 01 Motor Power Supply Voltage.
11 - 02 Control Unit Power Supply Voltage.
22 - 01 Engine Speed Signal.
83 F - Can Communication Malfunction.

There was no issue with Hill Assist initially but I got this error code after get serviced at Reputable Honda.
Hope I can get rid of this error codes after fixing inverter only.

Starting engine was always smooth one off turn key **** but now I have to turn it and hold it for moment to start engine.
Drive comfort seemingly like driving in sports mode and no longer smooth acceleration and gentle driving course expected.
But unlike all other thread above, I can still rev up 4000 rpm and making bursting(?) noise boom boom phoooo or something like that.

Any good advise really appreciated !!

Best Regards,
Harry

Thank you S Keith for your help on this!! The links you sent saved me about $1500! I saved over $3000 overall by doing it myself vs. letting the dealer fix it.

I created a case with Honda to see if they are able to help further. If they could make the IGBTs available, I could fix my old one. I'll post if I get more info...
Just went through almost that entire first video before I realized he said WOW this thing might actually have a bulletin or recall so check!
Well I did and just late last year American Honda announced a service bulletin about how they extended the warranty of the Intelligent Inverter unit. So if possible maybe ask for your money back? Not sure if there is a way to do that but Thank You so much for that video. Def. dodged that $2k bullet there.

Finally managed to take out IBGT complete inverter assembly. And wait for new iron soldering unit to arrive for visual check of any burn out.
the problem is the capacitor that suspectedly burnt out cannot easily find from anywhere.
even ebay seller charges $500-$700 for capacitors.

Maybe it is time for us to sue Honda as they built it for less 10 years working for most customers. Deserve to be blamed.
Anyone can help? To find this?

Many thanks in advance.

Have you found exact part number for this relay or circuit?

Hello, it has been more than two years since you posted about this, but I am wondering if you can give me some advice, I have a 2011 Honda Fit Shuttle Hybrid, same problem-IMA charging failure, with code P1634 with this message " Moter Power Inverter" "Temporary Signal circuit." What part did you replace for your car to get back to normal if it did? Thanks

Hello all,

Thanks for all the info.

Some questions for you all here:

1) Does anyone know how the inverter fails? Age and miles? Engineering malfunction? Obviously heat is a factor since the IGBTs are getting fried.
2) Why are some pictures above labeled with the converter part #. What does the inverter ACTUALLY look like?

Dealer quoting me $1660 for MPI replacement. My guess is that the inverter is the direct cause. I'll ask for codes when I call back.
Thanks!

I was told it looks like this (for Honda Fit Hybrid) Someone said it looks just like a Honda Civic's.

Hello! My 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid also seems to have this issue. Pulling up to a red light I felt a jerk and then my red battery light, IMA light, and engine light went on. Drove home fine but without the IMA motor and Hybrid battery working. Ran the codes. Got just P1437 - Motor Power Inverter Module Short Circuit. Turned the car on and it started rough. Second startup was fine but slow. Planning to take it to dealer soon. Bought the car in 2019 at a great discount due to a salvaged title. Likely voiding the warranty. Any advice anyone here can give on my situation would be appreciated!

IF it is the inverter then I found a great step by step replacement guide on a 2013 Acura ILX Hybrid which from what I can tell should be the same as the 2012 civic hybrid generation. Linked below.
