Wow.
That means the battery pack lasted about 250k-300k miles. Hmm...that's actually pretty bad since the person said they drive, "99% highway miles."
(At highway speeds, the IMA isn't used. I'm sure all of you know that. )
I wonder how long the battery will last in more "intense" conidtions, such as the urban jungle.

From what I have read the battery packs don't totally die, they are basically a set of D-cell NIMH batteries in series and when one or two of them in that set degrade faster than the rest those bad ones can be pulled and replaced out with good used condition ones.
I am sure by the time that HCH and HCH II's are 10-12 years old there will be lots of places doing battery re-conditioning in this way, I also expect someone to make a retro fitting high performance battery pack using some kind of new battery technology for hybrid's.

Hmm...It is true that the battery could've been changed later. (Like at 550k miles) Still, it's bad for a battery to die after 5 years or something.
Maybe, the battery pack was used so little (since it was "99% highway driving") that the battery pack went bad? I think it's unlikely.
But anyways, it's good to hear about a HCH still going storng after so many miles!
