ScanGuage on Honda Accord Hybrid
Mike,
Did you manually enter the data into the Excel spreadsheet or can it be downloaded from the scanguage directly to a computer?
I have noticed coming home from work each day that with the ECO light continually on when going up a small elevation that the MPG drops several points any ideas? If three cylinders are on then and also while crusing why is this going down, I understand mph going down.

Tinkerbell,
I had to manually write down and type the data in to the spreadsheet, since the ScanGauge has no interface to download the data to a computer.
Even with the ECO light on, if you go up a slight elevation your mileage may decrease since the load on your engine and fuel burn rate will be higher than if you are driving on a level road. Try reducing pressure on the gas pedal slightly when going up the incline, but not so much that your speed drops much.

Eeric - I hate to resurrect an old thread but I'm wondering if you know of any updates on the accuracy of the scanguage with various hybrids. I have a non-limited HH so my only MPG indication is the instantaneous mpg and my calculated mpg with each fill-up. I'd like to be able to calculate a "per trip" mpg etc to determine if various route changes are effective or not.
Hi Shiloh:
___I do not think the coder has updated it to handle an ICE-Off while moving condition in a hybrid or non-hybrid as of this writing.
___Good Luck

Actually, Wayne, the newest software is supposed to take care of this. So if you buy a unit now, it should work take into account the ICE-off.
I have not sent back the original unit I tested to have it "flashed" with the new program. I've heard it works for the ice off situation, but have not tried it yet.
It's on my "to-do" list and as soon as I get it done I will re-evaluate it.

Hi Ericbecky:
___That is great news. Can you confirm as I have a few non-hybrid automobiles that need a Scan gauge with FE monitoring through a FAS as well
___Good Luck

He lives a couple miles from me, so I can have my ScanGauge re-flashed without paying shipping. I'll contact him this week and see about having mine re-flashed. Then I'll test and see if it works with non-hybrids for ICE off calculation, as wayne asked. I don't have a hybrid, so I can't confirm it's functionality in electric-only mode.
1. On a non-hybrid, I do wonder about the safety of engine off operation. As soon as the vacuum booster is exhausted, the brakes are terribly heavy. Same general argument for steering.
2. I have never seen any comment on the misleading effect of low MPG readings while accelerating. Certainly the energy that goes into the kinteic energy of the car is not a loss and should be counted as a plus or addition to the MPG. Needs a statement of the car weight or mass, and a correlation of fuel use and kinetic energy. Perhaps it is just good enough knowing that low MPG readings while accelerating are inaccurate. Some Insight drivers realize that getting up to speed in a hurry is best. An ICE is not too efficient at light throttle.
