Great Weekend Trip! 30 MPG Up; 40 MPG Back
I did something like 280 miles on Friday and averaged 30.1 mpg. Mostly 5 mph over the posted speed limit. The majority of the roads were 65 mph. Quite a few of 55 mph zones through the mountain passes. This coupled with lots of flooring-it to pass slower cars during dotted line passing zones. Elevation change from Phoenix to Alpine, AZ was about 7Kft.
On the way home, I averaged 40.1 mpg. I did 42-43 mpg most of the trip, but it dropped during the last 30 or so miles while crossing through downtown Phoenix. This time, again at 5 mph over, but waited to pass until the road opened up with an extra lane. Elevation delta was -7Kft. I attribute the majority of the FE gains to all the downhill sections. But, I've gotta say some of that gain was due to the elimination of WOT passing. Maybe only 1-2 mpg, but it still counts!
