The people getting 50MPG are probably using hypermiling techniques, or are just commenting on a single trip (which could have been with a tail wind or down-hill slope, etc).

I'm sure you can get closer to 50MPG if you keep speed at 58MPH right lane cruising, no AC or set high to 80deg, drafting cars/trucks on the highway, and avoid stopping by decelerating / timing lights, pulse and glide, etc.

In a hybrid, you actually want to avoid braking. Even though it regenerates the battery, it is actually better to save the momentum and time things so that you never really stop, or just slowly come to a stop.

What about the accelerating. Accelerate slowly or moderately? I live in Charlotte, NC so our city traffic is really stop and go for at least 10-15 miles of my trip home. My F150 was getting 13mpg and had to go. Thanks for the tips.

Since you are in EV mode during stop-n-go, which is all electric, I believe electrics are more efficient during acceleration than ICE. So what you are doing should be fine - moderate acceleration.

Personally though I would be more easy on it since a harder acceleration would heat up the battery and electronics more. I would save those for when they are really needed to pass people or get out of situations.

Batteries don't like heat unfortunately

I know it affects mpg but that should be included in the standard EPA testing because I don't know anyone that drives around with the AC off when it is 95 degree outside.
Again, EPA test results are NOT promises.

And, per http://www.greencarreports.com/news/...ted-after-2015 and many other sources, the Accord PHEV is being discontinued.

I also owned a 2002 Camry four-cylinder, and it consistently got over 30 MPG. The engine felt very strong.

I own the 2015 Accord Hybrid. So far I have filled the tank 3 times. First 2 were over 50mpg. Mixed driving. The third was 95% interstate, 47.4 mpg.. So far, very happy.
