Are you going to activate the system? I was thinking of getting something like this when my son turns 16. I have a few years to go so maybe the tech will change.

I thought about it. I think this thing is actually responsible for killing my battery if left sitting for a week or more. It happened to me twice, one even with a new battery, so I took the car in. They claim they found no parasitic drains and were happy to charge me $90, but I think my local service techs are pretty lame.

I'm also thinking about removing it altogether, but I'm not sure what's involved in getting behind the dash to locate where it's wired in. Any ideas where something like this would be wired in?

Why do you have a location tracker in your car? Did you buy it that way?

Yes, bought the car used. An easter egg apparently.

Do you make your payments to the place where you bought the car? If so this may be a tracking device that will disable the car if you don't make your payments.

If you don't know why the device was installed in your car, and it is active, I would remove it immediately.

That would be AWESOME! Pretty tricky of dealer to do that, never heard of it before.

However, I don't think it's the case here. It was a small dealer that got the car from auction from SoCal, like many small dealers do. It was either a lease return or a repo. I financed it, but through my credit union.

I spoke with the manufacturer of the device and they said I could transfer it to myself. I think I'll probably remove it though, as it doesn't seem too useful to me.
