Welcome to the GreenHybrid club. I also have about a 75 mile round-trip commute. It's been great so far. My average is 46 overall, and slowly climbing. On commute-time only, I get 50+ pretty consistently now.

My 2007HCH2 is more of an addition to the family. However it replaced my 1999M3 & 1996 Suburban in terms of commuting duty. Both of which I still own.
The M3 is a blast to drive, WHEN traffic permits. It's quite very rewarding to go thru all the gears and toss it into a tight corner. However it very quickly turns into a torture when you've got to creep along in traffic for even a few miles. However for a performance car w/ an inline-6 3.2l engine I did manage about 21mpg on it fairly consistently.
The Suburban got about 15mpg and used to be our long trip vehicle of choice. Now that we've got the HCH2 with nav, it looks like technology & FE might prevail over hauling capacity.
