I think my car has "EV mode" but I don't do that either.
I wouldn't know how.

My main point is lots of experts recommend lots of complicated things to newbies to up the MPG.

I don't do them, yet I got a 71.65 MPG tank.

I suspect that's why I'm not welcome over at the competing site cleanmpg.com

I tried to register and it didn't work.

EV mode is pretty simple and you've probably used it by accident. If you let off of the gas, the engine will shut off (when warmed up) and you will usually get the charging (the green bars). If you start to press the accelerator lightly, the green bars will go away and the white bars will appear (assisting) before the engine will kick back on. If you hold it in this state, it is referred to as EV mode. It's really nothing special and it is usually not good for fuel economy.

I've never recommended anything complicated to a newbie and most people really take it easy on new people with very basic tips. I certainly worked my way into more FE techniques the more I drove and read on this site and CleanMPG.

As I've said before, your 71.65 mpg tank is very nice. If I had a commute like you, I might very well do the same thing that you do. I think slightly better fuel economy could be obtained without cruise control, but it would be a more relaxing drive (less calf fatigue) with it. Anyway, I do not have your commute. Cruise control is not an option. I use different techniques. It seems you are constantly trying to remind me of this. It is not necessary. I know. OK?

As for your registration at cleanmpg, do you really think you are unwelcome there? I doubt that.

 

The CC is actually pretty good at keeping the car in EV/glide/whatever the term is. The computer's foot is more sensitive than mine at making the green bars to go away--I think it's in kahoots with the IMA... .

 

Another benefit of CC is it prevents you from speeding up when people are tailgating you, or just to avoid the tendency to "keep up" with traffic.

You set the desired speed and that's it.

According to this site, it was available on the HCH I and the Insights with manual transmissions.

My commute is about 17 or 18 miles and it takes around a half an hour.
I don't really time it.
Often it takes longer since traffic gets bad or I have to run errands.
