In the climate I live in (Va) I'll never pay for mine with dollars. The additional comfort is a payoff though. Like having heated seats without the additional battery drain.

You should tell us how much far the distance you drove and got 37-39 MPG and in which type of roads ( highway , city )..
As my experince in my 2006 HCH the most important 2 factors that really hurts your mileage are the following :-
1- A lot of uphill driving
2- The high speed
( Always take the round avg of your trip if you drive in uphill roads )
All other factors like the oil , temp and the tires psi are also hurts your mileage but will never make a big difference like the uphill or high speed driving....

Hi all - I just joined today and recently bought an '08 HCH (and am buying a 2nd one today). I have been getting between 38-40 mpg, combination city/hwy driving. I will take heed of the advice here and try and see if I can get it into the mid-40's....

One question: people on these threads are always posting mpg numbers. It it a correct assumption, that most are just using the computer when they say "I'm getting 48 mpg", or are they checking the mileage when they fill up, using pencil and paper ? I thought I read somewhere, where the mpg computer is slightly on the low-side.

Thanks - Mark

Welcome. I check my mpg the old-school way, with pen, paper and a calculator at each fill-up.

Good luck with your 2 HCHs.

I watch the computer between fill ups, then calculate mileage with an app on my phone. I find, most times, the computer is pessimistic by 2-5%

Thanks for the link and the welcoming ! I bought an '09 HCH today, and it's showing 48 mpg right off the bat. The '08 is around 38. My plan is to drive the '09 to/from work for one tankful, then the same with the '08 to see if the '08 really is getting that much less mileage. (The '08 has 37k miles, the '09 has 9k miles).
