Re: Matt's hch2 blog
Matt - Your numbers for today don't add up. On your previous daily post, 10-20-2006 07:41 PM, you said the average was 46.0 mpg and if I run the calculation then it is 45.96 mpg so this is accurate. On your numbers today I calculate this as 47.70 mpg but you listed 49.4 mpg so this is a larger difference. Did you drive elsewhere before/after those posted trips but read the end-of-day average (such that if you made a side-trip that didn't "count" as work it counted on the car's total average but not on your hand notes). The time before that was noted as 46.8 mpg but I calculate it as 45.4 mpg. I assume all your numbers are from the dash display. Maybe a 1.4 mile trip (noted as 1 mile) and a 3.4 mile trip (noted as 3 miles) is the difference. Adding 1 and 3 you get 4 miles but it was actually 4.8 miles which rounds to 5 miles.

i got 41/0.8296465=49.4. i'm not rounding up the gallons, just adding them to memory as is. i could be wrong. like i said, i'm not a math guy.
i'll do the 50-mi test asac.

Re: Matt's hch2 blog
Right but you should include the tenths of mpg in your list since the car displays that and this might be the difference. You can round up/down for work but for our list we need to be accurate <smirk>. Also, when I make a 22.x mile trip then I claim it as 23 miles - like the IRS - anything over a .0 decimal gets rounded up. So I might drive a total of 24.1, 19.3, and 4.2 miles on the day but I round this up to 25, 20, and 5 for 50 miles rather than 47.6 miles and this makes a big difference over a year. I just claim that I was looking at the "whole number" odometer and not the trip meter and if it ever gets mapped by Yahoo or Google or DeLorme then it shows as the next higher whole number. =) [Hope my Manager isn't a member of this list]

Re: Matt's hch2 blog
ya, that makes sense. if i'm not rounding the gallons, i shouldn't round the mpg, for accuracy purposes.
today:
17/51.2
10/59.4
4/50.3
1/39.3
17/43.0
23/55.6
=50.9mpg
today:
17/51.2
10/59.4
4/50.3
1/39.3
17/43.0
23/55.6
=50.9mpg

Re: Matt's hch2 blog
Yes but I doubt that you drove all of those miles to the even mile. You need to give the decimal point on the miles AND the mpg, silly. MUCH better results though -- you must be learning how to drive better. It definitely shows in your numbers.

Re: Matt's hch2 blog
i'm trying not to get too **** about this thing. my rounding method is .5 or greater, round up.
today was a surprisingly good fe day, and the overall trend has been one of gradual improvement, which is exciting. i was thinking today that maybe i'd reached that break-in sweet spot cuz a lot of my trips were in the 50s, but i only have around 1500 miles on the car thus far. since we have mild winters here in san diego, the trend will hopefully continue.

Speak for yourself, Steve :p Actually, it's just a matter of every time we check the boards, there's new posts here, which of course attract the "is there something interesting being said, or something useful I could add" eyeballs.

Or with Firefox you can add GreenHybrid as a Live Bookmark and then open all new posts in tabs automatically and just blow through all the new posts whether they relate to you or not -- and that inflates some of the number of views to a post. I of course have posted to this one so it pops up on my Subscribed Threads.
