Lurch when braking - Newbie Question
Have had my 2008 about 3 weeks. I've noticed that when breaking, the IMA kicks-out of regen at about 15 mph and the vehicle seems to lurch unexpectedly -- requiring more pedal pressure. Is this normal? A little scary depending on the situation - like when pulling up behind a car at a stoplight after gliding for as long as possible.

Harold is quite right.
Furthermore, you notice that the phenomenon will subside as the vehicle breaks-in. Adding to that you'll also learn to modulate the brake pedal pressure in order to ease/soften the transition between regeneration and hydraulic braking.
One thing to note though, is that the transition appears more obvious in lower temperatures especially when the vehicle is still cold, so it helps not to "race" the car during that time.
All other hybrids (Toyota hybrids included) exhibit a noticeable lurch under the similar conditions. It is all part of the hybrid game.

"the IMA kicks-out of regen at about 15 miles per hour and the vehicle seems to lurch unexpectedly"
When you say lurch, do you mean that the brakes (regen) stop working, and so the car keeps going, or that the car literally lurches forwards, like it'll speed up in the middle of slowing down?

Harold is right. As your car prepares for AS, regen cuts out. The regen is slowing your car down and without it, you need to put more pressure on the brakes. Over time, your car will break in and you will adjust to this.

First of all, thanks to all the folks who have responded. I have much to learn. What happens is when the IMA disengages, the car continues forward as if the brakes were less effective. I guess it makes sense that the "drag" imposed by the IMA is gone and slightly more pressure is required on the brake pedal to maintain the same level of braking.
