If using 16" or 17" rims on HCHII - what's your average MPG?
Hello,
If anyone had a chance to replace OEM rims/tires with 16" or 17" ones on HCHII - can you please post the numbers of how average MPG changed after that? (e.g. average based on 500-1000 miles; before and after).
I know Honda does not recommend replacing OEM's on hybrids and I did quite a bit of research on that so far. Apparently original ones were designed to make sure that MPG stays high and any change to the size, shape or form would affect it. Yet I am interested in practical results - no theory any more...
If you could also mention what tire size/ brand you are using with the rims to get your average MPG I'd appreciate that...
Thanks!

I'd say I've noticed about a 3mpg drop in mileage after switching over to 16" Acura CSX rims. I haven't actually compared mileage for each fill up although I do have the data written on each receipt. Remember that its the tires that make a difference as well. I bought my rims with brand new Goodyear tires already mounted so I didn't want to spend money on low rolling resistance tires. I'm sure better tires would make a difference in mileage for me but the increase in mileage would not have made up for the cost of the new tires.

mine changed to 17" with 225/45/17 goodyear rev02 / excellence
and fully loaded with extra bodykit and defuser plus other performance parts
base on the data collected seem it changed a tiny bit compare to stock
believe my ride weight at least 10kg more than any of your ride
but mpg don't seems to change
it could be the changes done on the cold air intake and modified hoot
as my coolent temp drop by 4 degree C with the modified hoot
and my intake temp min 10 degree C lower than stock car due to the CAI
i'm smashing the myth hybrid cannot be modified to perform better
my next mod will the intake manifold

Re: If using 16" or 17" rims on HCHII - what's your average MPG?
Hey everyone I just picked up a set of 4 15" wheels from a 1987 BMW 325e. The bolt patter is 4x100 just like my 2003 HCHI, but i'm having trouble getting the rims to center on the hub nose.
The hub nose has a diameter of 56.1mm while the BMW wheels have a bore of 57.1mm. no-one makes a 1mm hub-centric ring, but that's not even the biggest of my problems. The hub-nose of the civic is too short to even extend into the bore on the wheels deep enough to grab it as the bore in the rim is flanged. Check out the illustration and please let me know if any ideas to help these wheels rest on the hub nose rather than being lug-centric.
Thanks!

Agreed! I started thread a while back on a HCH w/ 19's on it. Looked great (I guess it was lowered a bit) and the reported mileage was in the upper 40's, too!

Looks great, but does any of your mods, void the factory waranty? also can't make out the tires, what are they?
I'm at 33k miles, but did buy the extended waranty due to the infancy of hybds, anyway I will need tires soon, and wanted to get something lower (55,45, 35) than the OEM's and possibly replace the rims to a 17". But dont want to give Honda any excuses to not honor the waranties.
