Default I F-ed up a 600+ mile tank today

This morning I got in the car and reset the trip meter like I do every day. Unfortunately, just before the numbers turned to dashes, I realized that there were 590 miles on this trip, not the 10 from my commute home last night--I was on A, not B!!! I had checked it last night to see how close I was and forgot to turn it back to B before I shut the car off.

At least my eyes registered the 590 miles so I will know how many miles to enter in the database when I buy gas (590 + trip A). The worst thing: this is the SECOND time I've done this now shortly before a 600 mile tank. You know what they say--once a mistake...

That sucks. I enter the actual odometer number in my spreadsheet anyway. My miles driven comes from this number. I do track the dash FE for comparison purposes.

I'm at 498 miles with three blips left on the gas gauge, can I make it? I don't think I can , but I have hope. H

how are you getting so many MPG? I just bought my hybrid two days ago and would love any suggestions for improving my mpg. I'm trying to be really gentle on the gas (still difficult, I just traded in a 300+ HP/12 sec quarter mile car). Right now I'm only averaging 47mpg after 160 miles driven since i bought the car.

That sux.

I had my best tank ever and had to take a huge hit by going up a steep hill a week ago.
I was mad.

It will still be my best tank ever but it could have been even better.

Your profile doesn't show what kind of car you bought--is it a new HCHII (I'm assuming because that's the board you posted on)? If you look at my mileage history (the link on my signature), you will see that my first tank was only 41mph and I've steadily improved since then. Part of it has to do with the car breaking in, part of it due to the warmer temps, and part of it is due to changing my driving habits. Tarabell wrote a great article on how to drive the HCHII as efficiently as possible which I would suggest reading. 47 mpg for your first couple of miles sounds pretty good to me!

I'll have to read that later when I've got a minute. It's an 06 with 18k miles.

Ok, I bought gas on the way home after driving 25 miles today so the tank ended up at 615miles at 55.2mpg so I have officially had my first 600 mile tank! The best thing is that this tank was just commuting and errands with no "long distance" driving so I'm expecting many similar tanks from now on!
