Default HID fog lamps

Any of you have fog lamps installed? If so, can you tell me if they can be controlled separately from the low beams? In other words, if the low beams are on, are the fog lamps on too?

Also, have any of you converted the fog lamp bulbs to HID?

Default Re: HID fog lamps

This is a simple one,

Fog lights are on only when the low-beams are on. This is because they are a supplemental lighting for low beams and should only be used for driving in inclement weather or in situations where a lower and wider beam of light is needed, such as driving in rain, fog, snow, or on rural roadways. The fog lamps by themselves do not produce sufficient lighting to drive safely with their lighting alone. This is why the fogs are not available for use by themselves or with the high beams.

It is recommended that fog lamp bulbs have a color temperature of 4300K or lower. This produces a yellow light which provides superior visibility in inclement conditions. .

Of course there are those that like to drive on urban roadways with their fog lamps on. Had these folks completed their 5th grade studies, they would probably realize what poor form that is and how it can be a hazard to oncoming drivers because of the glare the fog lamp reflector causes.

While using a HID conversion kit with a fog lamp is certainly feasible (there are H13 kits out there). The fog lamp reflector is an extremely poor choice to put a HID bulb into. The reflector does not have a bulb shroud or cutoff nor is the reflector able to focus the light, so this type of installation will produce extreme glare to oncoming traffic. It is not recommended to put HID conversion kits in a fog lamp reflector.
