My A1 service cost around $24. I bought my own oil. My dealer also washes the car and does a basic inspection.
I also change my own air and cabin filters once a year. You can get both at NAPA. I ordered them online for around $25 for both. I was also able to buy a case of 0w-20 Mobile 1 from NAPA.

 

I called my dealer today (White Plains Honda). They quoted me 39.99 for the oil change. I''m sure I can get one cheaper at another place but I feel more secure knowing that Honda techs are working on my car and would point out any issues that I might have with the car. It's my first new car and I intend to keep it for a long time.

Oil change with Mobil 1, replace engine air filter, replace cabin air filter. Some posts on this forum have cited $80 - $120 dealer quotes just for the engine air filter.

Dealers charge a fortune for parts, then another fortune for labor. They work their pricing scam the same way lawyers do -- they charge a fixed "time" for the service, but don't actually spend all that time performing it.

A dealer might charge 30 minutes time for changing an air filter. But his tech will only spend 10 minutes doing it. Then the same tech moves to another car, spends another 20 minutes on it, but the customer gets charged 30 minutes time. Then he does the same thing to two other cars.

Voila! The dealer charges for 2 hours labor in just one hour. Multiply that by the number of mechanics on staff, and you get an idea what a cash cow service departments are.

The trick for the consumer: DON'T BE A COW!

$29 oil change at a local independent Honda/Acura shop.

 

Again, I must say $200.00 for all of that is still very high.

But when my 94 Civic needed a timing belt, the Honda dealer it was purchased from wanted $1600.00 parts/labor. I took it to my Acura dealer and they did the work for less than $700.00 parts/labor. I would shop around if you are really getting quoted $200.00 for all of that...
