Aftermarket Air Filter?

Re: Aftermarket Air Filter?
I can get a K&N filter for 40$ shipping included. I saw that most ordinary filter come a least 15$. I change air filter twice a year. With K&N filter the cost est very low since it's gonna last longer than my car. I don't do that for the extra mileage. And K&N filter is kinda good for the environement instead of those disposable filter. What do you guys think?

Re: Aftermarket Air Filter?
I find it easier to save time and money by just replacing the air filter after each interval from www.fleetfilter.com (same as OEM at a decent price)
I'm wondering if I should change mine more often than recommended for maximum FE.
Thoughts?

Re: Aftermarket Air Filter?
I purchased the K&N for my truck and my HCH not long ago. I was a religious air filter changer every 8-10 months before. Granted, living in DE means a lot of crap in the air and road construction about everywhere you go. That equates to a lot of particles which the filter needs to capture. I figured that since I have 4 years left on my loan for the car, that's atleast 4 more air filters, which makes the K&N cost effective in the long haul. That's just my opinion.

think of it like your furnace at home. the longer the interval between changes, the more "gunk" in the filter and the harder it has to work to get the same amount of air through the filter. I've always noticed increased FE when I change out the air filters in my cars and usually a slightly quieter ride and better pick up. Now, most filters claim 12K miles and once a year. I take that as an estimate because we all drive in different areas. if you're out doing a lot of open road, country driving, you're probably getting less particles caught in your filter.
IMO, you should think about the area you drive in. Check the filter every 3 months, and see how much has built up on it. That'll give you a good idea of what it's capturing. If it looks "gray" then you may want to change it soon. Maybe I'm way wrong, but that's my thoughts on it!
