2007 HCH fuel tank size?
Does anyone know for sure what the fuel tank size is for a 2007 Civic Hybrid? The manual says 50 litres. I had my first fill up today and was down to 1 bar on the Fuel display (Low Fuel light came on at 2 bars and I drove another 35 kms since the low fuel indicator came on). So I was expecting to fill up close to 45 litres. But it only took 39.6 litres (I stopped on first click).
Is that the typical fill up? Is the tank size really 50 litres (i.e. I have another 10 litres remaining when i hit a single bar??)

So either Honda lies about the size of the tank (i.e. its really less than 50 litres or 13.2 US gallons). Or the Fuel display lies. Why would it go down to 1 bar or none with about 10 litres (or 2.5 US gallons) remaining?
I'd have a tough time believing that after the first click there's still about a fifth of the tank empty.
Anyways ... I dont mind filling up 40 litres each time. As long as I keep getting the good FE ... thats all that matters This mystery about the tank size is just to satisfy the geek in me.

Just checked my manual, and it says 47 litres (12.4 U.S. gallons)
I've been down to one bar, but the car only took 38.5 litres. I think they've got a very generous margin of error built in. Could probably squeeze another 120 km out of her. Who wants to test this out?

OK ... I just checked my owner's manual ... and it says 46.6 litres (12.3 US gallons). The online manual I had downloaded from somewhere said 50 litres (13.2 US gallons). So I guess Honda has made the fuel tank a bit smaller. Or maybe that just applies to Canadian cars.

I've driven 100 miles with zero bars remaining. I had half a gallon left. This was my only 600+ mile tank (I'm not much of a hypermiler, and this was the only time I've run the tank that low). I usually drive about 30-40 miles after the last bar disappears, and I always have between a gallon and a gallon and a half left....when the bars go away, you've got some time to find a station.

So I guess that's Honda's way of "parenting" us into filling up sooner. There's still a bir of gas left in the tank when the last bar goes off but the visual effect of zero bars on the display encourages the driver to fill up ASAP. And I guess thats fine with me.
I'm not too eager to test out the tank limits on my new car so I'll definitely be filling up as soon as it gets to E In the end its the FE that matters not how far the tank took you.
