I believe in Hybrid-speak that's forced-auto-stop. As in turning the ICE off expressly.

An excerpt from the CleanMPG glossary:

Forced Autostop: A Honda hybrid will AS (Autostop) in various scenario’s although it is very limiting to a given condition. To high a speed, to cold, not enough SoC (state of Charge), not enough speed since last AS, Defrost or A/C on except for the AH and HCH-II in specific conditions, etc. will not allow AS … Forcing an AS, aka Fas , takes these limits out of the equation.

Basically you turn off the motor with your key while at speed... I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you know what your doing and practise in an empty lot.

He, it was funny, when I did a fas my passengers wondered why the car sped up. It didn't really, but they felt the load of the car drop and equated that to speed or something.

I went in town for the first time today. So, a lot of stop&go. I'am upset when the AS doen't work so I did a lot of FAS during the stop&go sector.

I want to keep the car for at lease 10 years, so I am a bit concerned about the pre-mature wear the practice might generate. If I must throw the car 2 years earlier just because I FASed too much, I am not sure of the net benefit for the environment.

any comments ?

There are a bunch of people that do a lot of FASing in an HCHI I haven't heard of any premature wear, and some of them are approaching 100K miles.
