Changed Gas Type
Hi all I am Dave from Ohio and new to these forums. I am the proud owner of a 2005 HCH and love my car.
I just watched a story on our local news about the different types of gas compared with fuel mileage. I was using unleaded fuel in my car getting around 48 to 49 MPG and then I decided to try changing my fuel to Premium to see if this made a difference now I am getting 52 to 53 MPG is anyone else seeing changes when using the Premium Gas.
Thanks

Re: Changed Gas Type
Higher-octane gas doesn't make a difference to fuel consumption by itself. However, higher-octane gas is often free of some ethanol blending, which makes a small difference. Regular unleaded can have up to 10% ethanol. I read that Ohio gas stations were allowed to remove the ethanol blend notices from the pumps because they were causing confusion. But I wouldn't even do your test until Summer, when the outdoor temperature is favourable to fuel economy; My fuel economy is also improving but that is because it is getting warmer outside.

Re: Changed Gas Type
I live in NW PA and have been getting steadily increasing gas mileage since it started warming up, still using 87 octane in my 2005 HCH w/MT. Plus the added affect of becoming more aware of what helps to get better gas mileage and using some of those is been helping also. Spinner is right, wait til the middle of July and try a tank of high octane and then one of 87 and see if you don't get the same for both then.
