installed the volant intake today

Re: installed the volant intake today
Good morning Jet1,
Did you have any clearance issue while trying to install the intake to the Throttle Body? I purchased an Airaid Jr kit designed for 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0L engines and the initial bend off the Throttle Body would not allow it to fit with the resivor in front, so I sent it back.

Re: installed the volant intake today
hi, the one I got was the standard yukon setup. there is a slight difference on the bottom of the air box but it is easily modified and the benefits are very obvious. Even dealer is amazed....the hybrid tech came up and said that it was very fast. The other mod I highly recommend is to get rid of the resonator. this in combination with the volant system makes the engine breathe a lot better and mine gives me 19.5 mpg average around town/

I had the resonator chopped off today. Still waiting on intake to arrive. I was shocked at the massive size of the resonator. Has anyone on here mounted a spare in its place?

Re: installed the volant intake today
It sounds moderately different (better). I would have to believe there is a performance improvement since some restriction has been removed from the exhaust system and 60lbs or so removed from the vehicle, but I would have to rate it as negligible at this point.
I think adding the CAI will make this sound pretty good and kick up performance a bit. I am looking forward to receiving it on Monday. Here is a link to a video of resonator delete sounds. Cold start, then idle, then 3000rpm, then quick rev to almost 4000rpm.
I'll post another when I get the CAI installed.

personally I think it sounds MUCH better with it off. I have a custom dual tip side exhaust out of aircraft stainless. It will also get a bit more intake roar with the Volant intake but only when you drive "aggressively"

Sad day...
I received my order today from Amazon for Volant 15453 Cool Air Intake Kit for my 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid. It was not compatible. I found this out only after full removal of stock parts. That's Monday for you, right? I should have been more thorough in my research.
A quick call to Volant proved that I needed the Volant 15253 Cool Air Intake Kit (which is spec'd for the 2007-2008 models). I am ordering the correct model tonight. It's Prime so I should see it by Wednesday.
For those that may read this in the future... If you have 2009 & up Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid, a quick call to whatever CAI manufacturer you choose may be well worth your time as the Hybrids are not equivalent to their gas powered brethren (even though they have same 6.0L engine).
Learning experience. I can't wait to get the next one in to see what a difference it makes
