In an ideal world, every new improvement would be backwards compatible to 08. But these aren't laptops and this system isn't a carbureted small-block V8. The stuff that absolutely has to be made available to past model years is, but the resources just aren't there to do it all. I wish I had a better, more detailed answer, but that's the best I can do. Those kinds of decisions are way above my pay grade. Just know we're not talking about incremental cost here. The validation/proveout process for new features on existing product is really expensive, and therefore, not approached lightly.
