I am really glad it started working right for you delasierradh! The only difference between the Sierra and the Silverado is cosmetics for the most part...they are the same truck. GMC brand was created to give GM dealerships other than Chevrolet a truck line and just like much of the GM brands, they are mostly the same except for cosmetic differences. They all have the same guts so to speak. Same frames, engines, tooling, components, etc. At one time, one line vs another might have some different body panels but that has mostly disappeared in favor of simplification in the GM line. The line of course used to be Pontiac, Buick, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, and Chevrolet with the GMC brand being available to any I think. Cadillac has always been a higher standard and had some pretty big differences with nothing completely common to the other lines really. It was a luxury car division. The escalade still has many differences to the Tahoe/Yukon. Hope that helps!

Hello,

I've been driving a 2010 4x4 Sierra Hybrid, and could tell a lot of differences between the Silverado and the Sierra.
Sierra's hybrid performance seems to be a lot better.
When in reverse on a steep hill the Chevy truck needs gas to start moving. The GMC truck not only can start moving on pure hybrid, but it also picks up a decent speed.

Are we sure they are the same inside?

The differences you are seeing are between 2009 and 2010 model years. Within the same model year they should behave the same. A new feature for 2010, for example, was the ability to stay in autostop when in Reverse. Not many of the changes are really visible; new door panels, some changes to the engine intake system and fuel injectors are about it. I think they dropped the graphics package and the 2-Mode badging as well for 2010.

Nice to hear from you KC,
and you might be right about the auto stop feature, yet why is the Sierra Hybrid advertised as a having somehow better fuel economy?
Now in the U.S. where we drive comfortably at 70 mph, I can hardly tell the difference between the two models.
Here in the mountains, however, where there are plenty of turns and slopes with mostly not so high speeds, I've noticed the difference to be abysmal.

I tried both the Silverado 2010 and the Sierra 2010 Hybrids 4x4 on the same exact 110 mile long trip at different dates.
The Sierra's tank was still past full and the Silverado was not.
There must be a difference...

Hmm, interesting. I don't know what to tell you, other than it's not coming from the powertrain or software. For the same model year and the same release level, there are no differences between the GMC and the Chevy. I suppose there could be some aero differences between the Sierra and Silverado front ends but in 2011 they both have the same 20 city/23 highway label. In 2010 the Chevy and GMC are both 21/22. I will say this: I've driven the same car on the same route with the same software level and have seen 10% fuel economy swings. Doesn't take much of a change in wind speeed and direction to see some variance. Also, cold start vs. a trans that's 30 deg warmer will make a difference as well. In a 4X4, 2 Hi vs Auto setting is about 1 mpg diff.

I think you should try to update your firmware again.

Some of the electronics have changed between 2009 and 10 but the last 09 firmware give a lot of good stuff to the oldies 09

I've had access to a few new 2010 imports and now I am absolutely sure there is a difference between the GMC Sierra and the Silverado. We transported them together through the same varied terrain, at similar cruising speeds, without there being a shred of difference and gas consumption differed in favor of the SIERRA.
I do not have any specific knowledge as to why, but whereas before I had a mere suspicion, now I am absolutely sure.

This trucks have the same options?

Are same trim level?

After-market wheels? Tires?

Made in Canada, USA, Mexico?

Technically speaking, both are the same drive train.

But something weird I found is a difference in weight !!!!

Chevy 4x4 (6111lbs) GMC 4x4 (5781lbs) (Official web sites Data Curb Weight Fully loaded)

I need somebody corroborating this asap !!!!!

That's very interesting Gabe,
Maybe this has to do with the Sierra's hybrid system kicking in more often and under more demanding circumstances than the Silverado.
By the way, the trucks we compared had identical characteristics. Same H/T tires, 4x4's driven in 2, same everything.
Still why is only the Sierra able to roll back uphill in reverse in pure electric and even gaining good speed despite the steepness?
Has anybody noticed cardan difference?
