The fires in Lithium ion batteries in laptops were traced to improper manufacturing quality control. In other words, they were defective due to shoddy manufacturing, not because there is anything fundamentally wrong with the technology. No, they're not perfect and the heat generated must be dealt with, but that can be addressed.

 

The hydrogen fuel cell vehicles took the exact same route, five years ago.

Yes. But unlike fuels cells, the stakes are higher with the momentum currently set by Toyota and GM playing catch up. If they deliver this, they could possibly be ahead of the pack with the first LiIon battery. Getting to the showroom does not necessary mean getting in the consumers hand of course. It all boils down to the affordability and mindset for "middle" america.

Here's an idea to GM if you care to listen. If you really wish to succeed, you should....

1) Pay Al Gore gobs amount of $$$ and make him the spokesperson
2) If the senior refuse, pay Al Gore III with lots of $$$ and prescriptions and make sure he cruise above 100 mph, preferably 120 mph.
3) Come out of the closet and honestly disclose who really killed the EV?
4) Come out of the closet and honestly disclose why the volt is not on the street today? Cut the bull.. about the battery. Just own up!
5) As atonement, you would markedly discount the first 5000 volt to your staunchest critic. (that would be members of this forum including me )
