Today I brought my camcorder.
My video is coming very soon.
It ended up a 115MB 15FPS 250BPS 320x240 MPEG-1 file.
Keep in mind the only real-time video is the road and FCD.
The Attitude (level) and IMA were added later and only a guide and is sometimes a little off.
If I do anything like this again I'll have to secure the camera a little better. It bounces a little on the bungee cord it was attached to.
It's my hope that someone out there can get some ideas and improve their own game, and please give me suggestions where I can improve myself.
Thanks to tbaleno for providing the web space and access.
He'll probably give some guidelines and a link to download it.

Its up. As with all the mutimedia on my site you need bittorrent http://www.bittorrent.com/ to download the file. http://hybrid.wrathof.com/torrents/Commute.mpg.torrent
Information on what bittorrent is and how it works is here: http://www.bittorrent.com/introduction.html

Thanks for getting that up guys...hopefully when more people get it the download time will go down w/ more sources to pull from. Kinda neat to see some areas i'm familiar with.
Hi Hot_Georgia_2004:
___Neat video and I liked the 4 views/effect(s). I especially liked seeing the rear view mirror with the windscreen as it added a lot of reality to the traffic conditions around you. Traffic conditions appeared to run the gamut by all appearances. You cannot do much better with 0 - 30 mph light to very tight traffic, 30 - 60 mph light to medium traffic on the two laner’s, and relatively wide open out on the Interstate’s. It was a very representative look at most traffic conditions a fellow Hypermiler might run across in his or her travels no matter where in the country he or she may drive.
___Have you considered using a just a wee bit less assist on your accelerations and using more forced autostops throughout your drive? Regen is nice but if you have an off-ramp from highway speeds, a forced autostop is usually good for > ½ mile of fuel free distance and should add ~ .75 - 1 mpg to your average for each one of the longer ones over a short 50 - 60 mile segment. When out on the highway, have you considered either pulling into a distant to tight draft above 55 mph or slow down to just above the minimums for a nice traffic side? A 2 second distance appeared to be what you were usually running and is absolutely safe but watching the other automobiles in other lanes, Georgian’s appear to drive just like most here in the Chicago area with an ~ 1 second interval as the Interstates begin to load up. If you drop down to let us say 50 mph in the far right lane (with little traffic directly behind) all the while your right tires are riding the white stripe for safety’s sake, your traffic side will improve tremendously although I know you were trying to maintain a high Kinetic for the upcoming rolling hill(s). It just appeared to me that you were running awfully naked out on the Interstates at 60 + mph is all. Other then my Monday Morning Quarterbacking, I see you are a master at “Driving with load” when available, using relatively distant traffic buffers in tighter traffic, maintaining momentum in and around turns, keeping tabs on the minute by minute wind conditions, and managing the traffic with a keen eye on the more distant vehicles according to the one graphic explaining such. You and I really have to get together and compare detailed notes one of these days
___Good Luck and thanks for the ride. It was almost like being there!
___Tom, once again I want to thank you for hosting the Video.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions!
The highway I take for the first part has light traffic, beautiful scenery and a pleasure to travel. Instead of taking this highway I could jump right onto the interstate only a mile or so where the video begins.
This interstate would take me right to the same exit shown.[/font]
However the interstate has a fast moving 70 limit with extremely long, drawn out inclines and short down hills.
I’d never see great numbers going that way and I don’t mind leaving 10 minutes early and take the highway instead.
The freeway exit is particularly poorly designed and dangerous. It often backs up onto the freeway. Only a couple of weeks ago it caused a tractor trailer to jackknife and crush cars before bursting into flames. 3 People died right there. Steveo probably remembers hearing about that one. (Although these seem to happen almost daily lately) The accident was only about 10 minutes before me.

Whooo Hoooo! I finally got to see the video. It looks like you put a lot of work into that thing. Man I'm starting to think something is wrong with my car. You have a lot more traffic to deal with and you drive a lot faster than I do but you still get great mileage. My car only gets about 45mpg at 70mph. It does pretty good at 55mph and better (really good) at 45mph.
That congestion from 14 minutes to 21 minutes is horrible. You need a plow for the front of your HCH! Did you let a Prius cut in front of you and turn right? Was it someone we know?
Always the perfectionist, I not entirely happy with either of our videos. Mine needs to show the road, show the gauges better. Plus it could use that "inclinemeter" and built in comments (like yours). Yours could use sound and a speedo IMO. Still an excellent effort! Don't let my nitpickyness drag you down.

Thanks Lakedude.
The video was fun to put together and I was going to put an audio narration with some crazy tunes but found that too much like work- so I opted for the subtitles.
Keep in mind that the only "real time" references are the FCD and road. There are some minor errors in the attitude, and some major ones with the IMA indicators. (I based the indications on below 40MPG) and shows assist in some areas where it was not applied. The very last part even shows Assist within a reboot!
Speed-
I seemed to be driving as if I had a highway follower - I was preoccupied with the video thing to pay attention to that...and the dashboard mask.
On the 2 lane staircased hills w/o traffic I go about 40-45 but touch 50 for a couple of miles.
At 3:00AM those 12 or so miles of staircased hills are a true blessing with zero traffic....I can travel almost all the way in the 80-120MPG range with many long reboots. Kind of payback for the earlier consumption...with interest.
Those tall hills in the first part of the video I loose about 1.5MPG in the climb but then reboot about 2 miles afterward.
That car does kind of look like Prius but actually it was a Ponticac.
Your comment is appreciated and yes, the video could be better. Maybe next time.
The goal was that hopefully someone in the much lower numbers could watch and have an idea "How do they do that??" Someone on another forum made a series of posts claiming that since he only got 45MPG everyone else was lying.
Really, his attitude sparked my effort.

Hi Lakedude:
___Although I did not create a video in the Insight, Tbaleno recorded one of my drives of GreenAndBlue’s AH for us? Its highlight was hitting 56.9 mpg after just 11.x or so miles from 0 mpg as we reset the averaging display just before we took off. That take-off was a hit as it was an uphill On-Ramp onto I-55
I have since blown that number out with both GreenAndBlue’s AH and my own non-hybrid PZEV but having a camcorder running on one of those special days is tough as I am sure both of you have probably experienced many times with your own video’s.
___I have a Prius II event coming up in the next few weeks and I am sure someone will bring a camcorder along to show Krousdb achieving > 100 mpg in his Prius II.
___Overall, some of the techniques we use may be foreign and what I would call “Bleeding Edge” to most, but once it is known that a given mpg can be achieved from a particular automobile, it makes it easier for the next new/used hybrid or non-hybrid owner to push their own automobile toward excellent FE.
___The highlight of the thread is that I enjoyed both of your video’s immensely!
___Good Luck to the both of you.
