Standard dev request
Jason, can you post the SD of each hybrid's mpg by model and transmission?
I'm betting the HCH with MT is the most consistant of all the hybrids. The Prius 2 seems all over the charts as does the HCH CVT but the HCH MT looks to have a much tighter group.

I think the reason the MTs have less deviation has to do with the people, not the car.
The people who would buy a hybrid MT are not poor people who can't afford a CVT, since hybrids cost a few thousand more than non-hybrids.
And, being a hybrid, these are not people who are going for speed-record-breaking performance.
No, I think people who buy the hybrid MTs fall into a relatively narrowly-focused group who are going for the mileage.
Buyers of CVTs are a wider cross section of people.
I’m one of the hyper-milers, but I am too lazy to use a MT.

The SD shouldn't be too hard to come up for a programmer that has access to the database. I could do it myself but that would mean entering hundreds of entries manually. I'll do the ranges:
Insight MT: 103.5 to 53.3
Insight CVT: 53.3 to 41.0
Prius 2: 63.6 to 36.3
Prius 1: 57.3 to 42.1
HCH CVT: 58.2 to 37.0
HCH MT: 54.5 to 44.0
Yep HCH MT has the smallest range!

The ranges are quite simple, and for a couple weeks they were actually on the graphs, but I decided that until I got the quartiles up, they didn't really say much. Tell you what... once I get a 5-number summary up I'll think about generating a standard deviation.
Also, I used to offer the entire database for anyone to download, but as 2 million+ miles is now an extremely valuable resource, I don't think it wise to allow just anyone to "steal" the data. Now you can still download data for your own car, but that's it.

99% of people wouldn't be interested, so to be frank it isn't worth the time.
