Anyone else noticed that much of the truck traffic has slowed down to close to the speed limit over the past 2 weeks? Seems like drafting opportunities have really improved lately.

I can't help but thinking that trucking companies have started to direct their drivers to slow down to conserve fuel. As little as a month ago it was hard to find semis doing much less than 70mph. Now it seems like most are going 60-65mph.

Freeway driving has suddenly become more attractive to me. I can save 5-10 minutes and still get great FE!

 

I think your observation may be correct. I haven't been run off the road once in the past 8 days. I've been driving in the 55-65 range also, and that's moved my FE from 42 MPG to 46.5 MPG.

 

Agreed. Traffic across the board has slowed down on my commute. There are still cars & trucks that fly through the lanes like bats out o'hell, but in general everyone is driving slower.

In the wake of Bush/Clinton/Bush's appearance yesterday, Southern Cal Freeway Traffic signs had posted on them: "Obey the Speed Limit." That was interesting reading during the first 15 minutes of my commute towards home, when I couldn't drive above 30mph due to traffic anyway.

Agreed, Kevin. There are parts of my commute that look like I'm driving a lot later at night, the freeways are so bare. Of course that's closer to my home than in Burbank where I work, but nonetheless....

I have noticed that as well. last night and this morning I ran about 60 and barely had anyone pass me.
