This has been said in a variety of ways, but ag4ever may have said it best:

The #1 thing that wastes more gas than anything else is people that feel they have to impress themselves or others with what they drive. It's one of those open secrets nobody confesses to.

Okay, I live in TX and on the news it is illegal to leave a car idling and unattended. In fact if your car was stolen while it was idling and unattended the police will give you a ticket, which is what happened to one recent person on the news who's car was stolen with their kid in it.

Are you sure you're a hybrid driver, and not a troller? (Just kidding, Shannon! Thanks for a breath of fresh air). Once again, you've said it well.

Actually, Hummer H2/H3 commercials running lately actually cater to that exact sentiment -- the commercial shows a guy in grocery line buying veggie and yogurt, and gets funny look from others in line. He felt insecured or embarrased or something, and buys an H2 (the end shows him driving the H2/H3) to compensate for the groceries, and I guess, to boost his manliness.

So I guess it's really not a secret, since GM is exploiting that to get people to buy hummers. The commercial actually makes me laugh and kept the brand name "Hummer" in my head -- the commercial is actually good --- it just makes me glad that there's another reason why dont buy hummers.

Amen, brother!

To put a twist on some old car commercials, I feel "comfortably in command" in my Prius!

Where did you find this?

When we went to the lake, we would often go to steak joint afterwards, but we had our dog with us. To keep him from getting to hot, we would leave the truck running with a/c on, but with the doors locked. (The F250 allows you to lock the doors with the key fob while the engine is running.)

We don't have this problem anymore, as our poor dog was put to sleep for medical issues this last year.

My Google-fu is failing me (or the local news is misconstruing a law) but everything that I was able to pull up deals more with clean air than the prevention of stolen vehicles (though you wouldn't believe the amount of cars stolen with the keys in the ignition). I think your case is okay since it is locked and it is for the well being of the dog. Wouldn't surprise me that the police would use this clean air provision to scare people not to leave their car running unattended, less stolen cars, less anxiety if said stolen car happen to have someone's kid in the back seat like in the news story that I originally heard this from.

That must have been a very painful talk given by Bush....the only thing he must have been thinking was how can I make my daddy and his oil friends happy now?

Maybe in 20 years we won't have to worry about any of them anymore anyway...they're getting old.

You can try the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles for a start. I can confirm it is illegal to leave your car running and unattended here in Texas.
But here in Texas if people don't like the law many, many of them just ignore it (Speed limits, etc).
