"Hypermiler" - Negative perceptions?
I'm saying writing a program, a webpage is not enough, it must run well. Many of us have quality control - standards.
Tom Brady is a great quarterback. He does not just throw the darn ball. If he can't get one of his guys to complete it, he at least makes sure the other guys don't.

That's a valid point, but I purposefully tried to steer this thread away from it. The reason is that we've beaten a lot of the tactics to death, and plenty of arguments plus locked & deleted threads have come of it. We know that some people take their search for efficiency pretty darned seriously and we know that some people have made statements to the effect that they should be banned from the roads. No need to do that again.
What I had hoped to accomplish is an exploration of the middle ground. So far it seems like there's quite a bit of it. I didn't realize that to begin with, which is why I started by asking about the word.

Yes, that's what I meant - that it meets specific goals, meets a certain quality (as opposed to "just do it").
Everyone doesn't share the logic.
So many things in the world I'll never understand anyway.
I know most drivers just "drive their cars" and not consern themselves with it. I'm OK with that too, but I'd hope they wouldn't throw stones (Or think less of) the few of us who do.

For example:
You are driving along minding your own business and out of nowhere a rusted out pickup truck with open headers goes screaming past you. It is night time so you can easily see the red shower of sparks from the cigarette embers as the butt hits the ground. Being night time you don't see the beer can until after it hits your grill and spirals up into your windshield.....
Notice how this story does not read the same if you substitute "Pruis" for "rusted out pickup truck"?
Over in Priuschat, someone started a thread "Are we overemphasizing MPG?" and we're in a thread titled "Hypermiler - Negative perception?" . . .:
For me, mileage data is like reading a tire pressure gauge, volt ohm meter or oil test. It is another tool about how things work. . . .

I'm going to hafta respectfully disagree with this one. How and what someone drives can definately be clue to their character.

To me, the story will read the same with "Prius" substituted. Either way, the driver's behavior is what matters.

Disclaimer: I'm and MPG phreak
Thread seems to be getting kinda heated. A bit of humor to cool it off?

I know it's gotten a lot of traffic, but still makes me laugh.

. . . Bob's mission, as I understand it, is to build fuel economy through technical understanding and improvement...essentially back-engineering the vehicle as much as possible and trying to improve upon Toyota's work. It's about building a car that can't get poor FE...right? . . .
