Holy Moly Rocky Check These Prices Out!

Holy Moly Rocky Check These Prices Out!
Apparently there was an email hoax circulated around today and word of mouth by phone that gas stations are going to close at 4PM today and reopen on Friday.
Result?
Every single gas station in the city, suburbs and rural areas of GA have long 15 min to more than an hour gas lines.
Not only that, because of the surge station owners are raising their prices by more than a dollar a gallon.
Most stations here are not even posting their price, just leaving the board blank.
I pulled along side someone who just pulled out of a station and they reported paying
$5.75 per gallon.
Since I was scheduled to fill tonight I put some fuel in at home slated for the tractor to get me back home tonight. Hopefully the panic will subside and get normal again.
Out in the rural area I consistantly saw more than $3.75.
Last night when I drove home the price was still $2.59.
Guess I missed out.

Good grief, it would be almost funny if it weren't such a mess. Hope those prices settle back where they should, er, uh, back to $2.80 a gallon, soon for ya.

It's basic supply and demand. High price discourages sales when the supply is limited.
The problem is the fact that we are hopelessly addicted to the stuff.

The problem isn't supply....it's all just an evil hoax.
The governor made an address to say that yes, our pipe from the refineries have been effective but we are still getting plenty from our ports.
You should see it here. Simply insane.
I think the $5.75 is an extreme case, Most I saw was just over $4.00.
However I did hear news reports of some stations over $6.00 for premium.

I can explain gas gouging perfectly:
Raising gas prices at your store "in order to take financial advantage" of a bad situation, when the price you are charging has NOTHING TO DO with the price of the gas you already bought and have in your underground tanks.
Did the $5.75 station just pay his wholeseller, say $5.70 per gallon, an hour before, for the gas he was selling at $5.75? If not, then he was gouging.

Price gouging
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Price gouging refers to a sharp, temporary increase in the price of items that are in high demand because of a civil emergency, without a generally-recognized justification or in breach of contract. The term is distinguished from profiteering by being short-term and localized, and by a restriction to essentials such as food, clothing, shelter, medicine and equipment needed to preserve life, limb and property. In many jurisdictions, price gouging is a felony.
