Default Biggest gas price gouge due to Ike?

So to start, I observed a $.60 increase from Thursday to Friday in Lugoff, SC. Other stations seem to be in the $.30 to .40 and some seem to have "not got the memo" and still charging pre-gouge prices.

I am sure someone can beat $.60..

Friday evening, I noticed 'lines' at the gas stations and the evening news was all over the 'gas panic.' It is so wide spread the Governor and Attorney General issued warnings and statements. But the news reports just fueled the panic buying.

Well guess I'll have to wait another week or so to refuel. <grins>

The SC Attorney General issued similar statements, but commented "There is no hard evidence that price gouging is occurring, just complaints". More or less the SC authorities aren't doing anything.

An interesting summary in my local paper:
- AAA State average (before) $3.63
- Highest Friday morning $4.70
- Highest Friday evening $5.50 (station lowered to $4.80 after several media inquires)

And there are stations today, Saturday, selling for $3.59. I am not sure what else the AG needs for proof of price gouging.

Guess it could be worse...

The highest price I saw was Friday night in Columbia. There was a station charging $4.49 on Rosewood.

I saw lots of 3.99 on I-26 between Columbia and Charleston. Pretty much all the stations went to 3.99 here in Summerville, too.

I have a confirmed report of prices going from $3.59 Thursday evening to $3.99 Friday in eastern North Carolina. And by late Friday, nearly all gas stations were OUT of gas. Panic set in, I guess. Fueled (ahem) by the media.
When will we wean ourselves off this drug?

The price at my local station is down at 3.75 or so.

An interesting read. So the author believes a short term gas outage resulting in price gouging is good for changing long term energy policies. Lots of interesting stats in the original article at oildrum. But these are all taking a rather wishful position with changing our consumption.

The gas station near where I work went from $3.67 to $3.89. Later went to $3.99. On my way home, saw a Shell station that was $4.59. Heard today that a station somewhere here in NC was selling gas for $7.59. After complaints, they lowered it to $7.25.
