Default How is your MPG?

Since the projections for all vehicles have gotten a bit more conservative, what MPG are you currently getting with the FFH?

Are you mostly doing city driving/highway driving? Are you driving as you usually would, or consciously following the tips from the Ford Hybrid team?

Are the MPG statistics on the display accurate? Do you check them when you fill up? My Dad has a FEH and the display for MPG is more often than not a bit off from when he checks the mileage vs. the amount of fuel he is filling the car with. It has never been right on, so I wonder if those with the FFH are having the same experiences?

Thanks as always for your input.

I have had the car for 1800 miles and have averaged 44 mpg based on miles driven and fill-up gallons. A typical drive for me is 15 miles highway and 5 miles suburban.

Impressive. I've got less than 1000 miles and have a reasonably easy to acheive 41mpg, but not more. Are you basing this on gas purchased, or the miles gauge? Also, I live in CA, which knocks off maybe 2-4 mpg due to fuel additives . . .

36 to 44 MPG depending on vehicle speed. 1,300 miles so far. Replaced vehicle got 15-23 MPG. Yeah FFH!

My MPG is based on gallons bought and odometer. My speed is typically 60 in 55 zones and 65 in 65 zones. Yes - I am usually in the slow lane. Gary G. was a big help on getting better hybrid driving habits. I find the EV mode in the fusion much easier to manage than my FEH.

I have had my FFH about 6 weeks and have about 2700 miles on it. The "lie-o-meter" is surprisingly accurate, never off by even 1mpg (though generally optimistic). Lately, I am consistently getting 44-45 mpg with 12 mile commute (by fill-up and calculation, which I track religiously in a notebook) on surface streets that changes to a 15 mile commute if I take the Interstate. I find the best Interstate mileage to be right at 60 mph. Below that (say, 50) seems to lug the engine and return worse mileage. When I concentrate on economy, I can move into mid-50s mpg for 15-20 mile trips on surface streets. "Long term mileage", which was reset at about 1000 miles, is about 43.5 on the dash meter. I've not done a long-term calculation myself, but would expect that to be close based on the above experience.

For a comfortable 5-passenger car with all the amenities, I'm happy. I'd NOT be happy if I were getting the "best case" 23mpg that I experienced in a 2009 Fusion with V6 and auto on the same commute. BTW, this compares to the 30-32 mpg that I got from my '06 Mini Cooper S on the same commute.

That's pretty impressive Bob. I have just under 1000 miles on the car now, and I live at about 2,000 ft elevation, and my 3-4x/week commute is from here down to the valley floor over a 12 miles slope plus 8 mile flat most of which is highway at about 60-65mph, and back home. Once a week the commute is about 38 miles on back roads at about 50-55mph on the flat. I noticed last evening I was increasing long mpg as I traveled home along the valley floor. Right now my long term mpg is at 41.0, which I'm tickled with so far. I also decided to gun it just to check out the 196 HP and yes, it takes off nicely! Good to know it's there . . .

BTW, what state are you in? We noticed about 2mpg penalty for driving in CA versus Utah/Nevada trip we took last year in my wife's FEH.

I'm in Indiana, so not a lot of elevation change (at least in the central and north). Glaciers took care of that.

Took a longer trip on the Interstate this weekend. When running about 75 on cruise, mileage dropped to 39-40 range. With the Mini, I'd have been 28-29 at that speed. Definitely liveable. Now over 3000 miles and time to make the first payment.

Hehe, I filled up today with tank #3. My average was 39.8mpg doing miles/gallon calculation, which includes a 3.2 hour trip at an average speed of about 64mph, plus headwind of considerable magnitude on half of the trip. Today, after filling up where I live at 2,000 feet, I did my Thursday commute to beautiful downtown Willows, CA, which is a 49mile drive one way, and back. The new result came in at 43.5mpg for a ~100 mile round trip including a 1,650 foot elevation change each way, and air conditioning at 75 degrees most of the way home. I drove quite conservatively, but kept up with traffic just fine. I'd say from this behavior the car should be capable of 44-46 mpg if you want to work it, after it is fully broken in--which it may be, I don't know. With just smart driving, keeping decent to higher speeds up, she should get over 40 mpg without much trouble it would appear.

I have really been enjoying podcasts from iTunes so it was very pleasant. I love the Stereo Bluetooth! I actually can play from that device, or also the flash drive in the car's USB slot.
