I'm at 72000 miles... I just had my second door actuator motor replaced. Apparently a few months after my first replacement they released the TSB complete with a NEW motor that supersedes the older one.

Hopefully this will be my last replacement. Am I peeved... not really. Its really the only problem I've had with my '06 other than a sway bar replacement.

Tim,

At what mileage did you have to have it replaced the first time? I assume it was covered under warranty that time. How much did it cost you the second time, or do you have an extended warranty that covered it?

I have only had my 2006 FEH AWD for 4-months/6,200-miles, and this is the first issue that I have had to pay for, but I am having other issues.
  • Within the last couple weeks, the window in the driver's door started making a squealing noise when raising.
  • The navigation system has been acting up. When searching for a while, the screen goes black and "re-boots," and then I have to start over again. I frequently get a message that the disc is dirty or damaged. I plan on buying updated discs. I understand a new release will be out soon. I am hesitant paying $200 though, since a portable one would make more sense, so I can use in my other vehicles. The other day, I was trying to get the address of the Walmart closest to me, and no matter what method I used, the only Walmart it would display was one 45-miles away.

It was covered the first time at about 31,000 miles. This time I negotiated with the dealer that sold me the car and got it knocked down alot. This time around the motor was replaced with a NEW motor of a different design... hopefully that means they fixed the problem and I won't need another... if you just had yours fixed, you probably have the new part as well.

It does NOT fall under the Hybrid parts warranty--you might think it should, but apparently it is not on the list. I guess because the motor/actuator in question is not special in any way to the hybrid. That same motor design is used in the climate control system in the car as well so the part isn't hybrid specific, so perhaps thats why it doesn't fall under the hybrid warranty.

The NAV just needs cleaned discs I believe. I tried to burn my own and had similiar issues so I think its a disc mis-read. They JUST released the 2007 set only a few months back... the set before that was 2005. I don't think you'll be seeing new discs that soon... not before the END of 2009 if not later. If you have 2005 discs, you might not want to wait and just get the 2007s. Or go portable... lets be realistic it is an old NAV system.

Incidentally... I find that tracking errors (when you find that your car is several blocks away from its actual location) are reduced a great deal by leaving the NAV CD in all the time... and using the 6-disc changer for your music.

Found the online version of the warranty: (looks like you can substitute the years 07-09) http://www.fordvehicles.com/assets/p...1&zoom=100,0,0

Don't see any mention of it covering a battery fan actuator

As for GPS, I prefer portable, I don't take my cars out of the city (very often anyhow) so it's a waste for me. I bought a portable Garmin I take with me when we fly/rent cars, then I added Garmin software to my Palm phone as well.

Took my 08 in this morning for the intermittent wrench light, got a call saying they replaced the actuator door with one of the new design. The wrench light started coming on at about 12,000 miles or so, and very inconsistent, but usually when warmer temps. Hopefully this will be the first and last issue with the vehicle ;-) So far, best vehicle I have owned.

Just to add to the mix...we had the wrench light and service soon coming on semi-regularly and took it to the dealer. I provided them with the info from this forum. The service advisor read this whole topic and they replaced the Aux Airflow Mode Door Act, per TSB 07-25-12. No charge. Our mileage is 32000.

Well, add my 2008 to the list. I got the "wrench" icon a couple of times, and today they applied the fix. My paperwork listed it as a "recall", but maybe it is just a TSB.

I have 8600 miles on my FEH.

Has anyone that has a Scan Guage and has had this problem seen the trouble code posted? I am experiencing these symptoms and the Scan Guage is emulating Sgt. Schultz ( I see nothing! ).

Thanks,
John Dixson

Read through the thread and you'll find the trouble code will NOT be seen by the scanguage. In fact, it doesn't even get logged or retained for the Ford readers either. The ONLY way it can be read is if a Ford dealer hooks it up to the system when the *LIGHT IS ON*. As soon as the light is cleared at the next restart.... the code will dissappear as well. Its been listed in the diagnostics as a "climate control issue" therefore it isn't considered critical, hence it clears... of course in this case its an $8000 battery thats going to get too hot, not you! It shouldn't be in that code set but thats what they did. So if you want to read the code, you'll have to drive straight to a dealer with the lamp lit and do NOT turn off the vehicle, nor let them turn it off.

Thanks for your rapid response. Because the situation is so infrequent and random in nature and since the dealership is 35 miles away ( and as well, it always seems to occur when I am on a trip to do something specific! ) making a spur of the moment trek down to the dealer is improbable.

I talked to the Maintenance Supr. and he gave me a Catch-22 response, saying that they will not order the parts for the tech service bulletin without hands-on evidence of the trouble code. I can see a confrontation in the offing on this issue.

Ironic that the very first opportunity for the Scan Guage to make good its advertising turned out to be a " did not show up for the game" situation.

Wonder if anyone has communicated this shortcoming to the manufacturer, Linear?

Thanks,
John Dixson
