I talked to the Maintenance Supr. and he gave me a Catch-22 response, saying that they will not order the parts for the tech service bulletin without hands-on evidence of the trouble code. I can see a confrontation in the offing on this issue.

Ironic that the very first opportunity for the Scan Guage to make good its advertising turned out to be a " did not show up for the game" situation.

Wonder if anyone has communicated this shortcoming to the manufacturer, Linear?

Thanks,

My experience with the B1239 DTC was completely opposite of Tim's. The DTC stayed stored for more than 2 weeks and I was able to repeatedly retrieve it and the freeze-frame data; it did not matter if the wrench light was lit or not. If you program up the BTC xgauge, it will tell you if you have any stored or pending DTCs from the BCM. After that, it is an arduous task to retrieve the info using the SG, but it can be done. Using the SCAN feature will not work as it doesn't poll the BCM, and even if it did the BCM does not respond to mode $03 requests anyway. I talked to Ron @ LL about this a few months ago, but haven't touched base with him recently. I don't have any DTCs anymore, so it would be impossible to test out the method I used. At any rate, the method I used only worked because I was pretty sure what the DTC was to begin with.

Thanks. I have looked thru the material on the Scan Guage site once again, but did not find the coding for the BTC data. Is it available at some other location?

Thanks,
John Dixson

post #17 in this thread on page 2. I'll add it to the list of xgauges in the Photo gallery section on this site.

Sorry not to have noted this source, but thanks for pointing it out. I'll be back in a few minutes with the results.

Programmed in the data and after restarting the vehicle, I see a single numeral 1 in the BTC code data area. Was expecting to see the B1239, but does the numeral 1 signify that there is one code to read in that area?

Thanks,
John Dixson

Had to run to the store, and the wrench light illuminated, but unfortunately, without a change in the BTC number.

I did send a note to the Linear Logic people. Their marketing of the Scan Guage as a diagnostic tool is more than a bit overblown.

Thanks,
John Dixson

Hmmm.... I don't doubt that you managed to pull it out. I wonder why Ford Service couldn't get it at all unless the lamp was illuminated. Trust me they tried because I'd been there before with the code and they'd already done the repair once. So they believed me and tried everything they could think of on their reader and nothing.... until I came back a day later with it lit.

Something is messed up with that code.

RXD: 3008
MTH: 000100010000

Can someone explain how to program this into the SC II, please? I'm having the same problems ya'll are with the wrench light.

Thanks

Do you have a version with xgauges? Has to be 3.14 or 3.15 but not 3.15*

>MORE >MORE >MORE <VERSION

If so, then you go >MORE >MORE >MORE <XGAUGE

Hit >EDIT and you go to the TXD display

+ goes up, - goes down for numbers, etc. -> goes to the next position.

So for TXD you would first hit the -> key to go to the next position. Then hit the + key seven times to get a display of 07, then hit the -> key to go to the next position and hit + 4 times to get 074, then hit -> to go to the next position and then hit the + key 5 times to get to 0745. Continue in the same manner to get a display of: 0745220200 then hit OK to go to the RXF field, and so forth for each field. after NAM, hit SAVE and you are finished.

Any resolution on yours?

Add our 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid FWD with a little over 26k miles. The wrench lamp and SERVICE SOON lit up last night on a (nice, pleasant, cool, windows down -- no A/C) drive home.

I have a ScanGauge II but it wasn't plugged in at the time the lamp and message center note illuminated, though reading this thread apparently that wouldn't have mattered. :-/

What I saw last night, and of course like everyone else here, what had auto-cleared itself when I shut her down for the night and got in to drive it today:
