With Pb acid batteries, a periodic “equalizer” charge is called for to maintain cells close to each other in capacity. I suspect that the special charge mentioned above is the equivalent of that for NiMH batteries.

Makes sense in that, with time, the chemistry can be restored close to new. Hopefully it is Ford’s method of doing the same thing for these batteries.

Well, I ran another tank down to MTE=0. My initial interest in asking the question was to know if I could trust the gauge to be consistent, and to give me a reasonable reserve when I hit 0. It seems both are true. So while I may push beyond 0 in an emergency, I am going to try for hitting just at or below 0 so I can get a reasonably consistent fillup and can compare fillup volumes. My theory is that if the gauge is accurate at 0, and if I always fill up on a fairly level surface, then the fill volume should always be the same. Last 2 tanks have been very consistent at 13.5-13.6 gal.

AND...I have a new personal record mileage: 558mi / 13.57 gal = 41.1mpg !

AND..A new record estimate MTE that passed a milestone: MTE=601 !

Thanks to all the folks who posted and made this a useful thread.

That's some good numbers, Ray! Do you know what type of fuel you're using? Is it E10 in your area?

Thanks. I have been pushing up the mileage on each tank, slowly but surely. I use "76" Regular Gas (87 octane) which I believe is E10 in CA.

My FEH has all modules within 0.06v of each other.
How did you check that, is it something ScanGauge can report?
