Default Stumped: Blower Motor Resistor

2005 FEH

My 3rd ac option wasn't working: only 1st, 2nd, and 4th (direct to battery)

I took out the old blower motor resistor - it was rusted as hell!

Put in the new one ... Now, ONLY the 4th option works....I'm stumped!

-I'm assuming no fuses are blown since the blower motor does operate on the 4th option
-I'm assuming the resistor does not have to be technically installed into its hole since that's for ventilation (for testing purposes)....right?

Any suggestions?

The resistor does have to be grounded on one end. Don't know if that means it has to be installed in the hole or what but maybe the rust that was there is preventing the ground from working with the new resistor.
