Default SOC won't go above 53-54%

The title says it all. Had my '05 FEH out for it's first road trip today. All went well. On my second tank of gas and am up to 31.5 MPG on this one with using only a few of the hupermiling tricks, so I'm happy.
I did notice that at no time in my ~4 hour drive (mostly 55MPH highway) did my SOC go above 53-54%. Any ideas why it might not be going nearer to 60%?

The FEH is designed to hold SOC around 53%. When SOC exceeds 53%, the vehicle will attempt to burn it off to bring it back to 53%. This is done by design to promote a long hybrid battery life. You can only exceed 53% SOC with regenerative braking effects.
