Default Replacing the Nav Unit...recommendations?

Hey guys, I am looking to replace my increasingly frustrating factory nav in my 2006 FEH. I have been looking at getting a Hard disk based unit, and would like to combine my current bluetooth car kit, XM Roady 2, and my Harmon Kardon Drive+Play Ipod unit all into one.

I am currently looking at the Pioneer AVIC-Z2, which seems like a pretty top of the line unit, albeit $$$.

Anyone have experience, or recommendations?

While its admittedly NOT the best unit out there. Before you make the decision there is a map update available (finally) from NavTEQ for the things. That will help with some of the old database issues. Of course its still an old unit so you still might want something else but just thought you should be aware before you toss that $3000 some odd "device".

to be honest, I really don't care for the Nav head Unit...and nothing is really included in it.

The mapping display are really sub-par as well...and to be honest, why do I want to invest over $200 in a map update, when I could buy an external GPS that does better mapping, and has much more inexpensive map updates.

I think I read somewhere there is a connector that either goes to the nav unit or to the instrument cluster for the ave and instant mpg, which is why people with nav units dont have the info on the instrument cluster.

You can certainly get a much better unit. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of all options. There is another thread on here were someone got an eclipse unit to fit and it looks real nice. Good luck.

John Morton has the eclipse unit and speaks highly of it. He may have an used unit for sale.

Somebody here was able to get the Message Center (I think that's what it's called) installed on their nav-equipped FEH so they could get this info in the gauge cluster.

it is probably something simple such as a re-program...at least simple to those who have access to reprogram it.

I looked at the eclipse unit and it looks really nice, however I was looking at getting something that was harddisk based so the refresh would be a bit faster...and it allows the ability to rip CD's directly into the head unit.
