Another change I notice today when I filled up was my MTE went from mid to upper 600 to 529 MTE after fill-up. My long term MTE data must have been wiped out also when they disconnected the 12 volt battery.

Hmmm... My MTE has not changed since the BCM update. When I filled up today, my MTE was 640 miles to empty, where I'd expect it to be.

Mid to upper 40's MPG is rare to post about on this board for sustained mileage. That is what I got before the BCM update. The thing is, no one has come within 12mpg of my record at hybribridfest. I will go title for title for any course with your FEH/MMH! I think you post under multiple ID's, this is a shame for GH.

I just had a pretty good tank, 39.3 MPG. After filling up, I did my usual mostly EV way home and parked it in the driveway at 83.6 MPG on the AVERAGE ECON display. YET, my MTE only showed 575.

Carl,

I'll bet 575 MTE is exceptional for "Dry Heat, AZ"!

If you want to punch through the mythical 600 MTE/40+ MPG tank barrier,
come out to the left coast, and spend a tankfull commuting between Santa
Monica and Camarillo on PCH--a 100 mile round trip. As a bonus, you'll
get delightful ocean scenery, particularly north of Malibu Rivera. And,
you get extra bonus points if you can locate on PCH where the Swedish
businessman, Stefan Erikssen, crashed the $1M 2003 Ferrari Enzo at
162 miles per hour on February 21, 2006.

Like GPSMAN says, the FEH/MMH is optimized for Southern California's
moderate weather and long rolling hills when pedaling about 48 miles per hour.
You don't need to break the California law coasting in neutral (CVC 21710),
tailgating (CVC 21703), etc. Nor do you need to FAS; to micro-manage your
battery's SOC; to shift gears manically; to dance the Hokey Pokey/Texas
Two Step on your brake pedal, etc. You simply let the truck do what it's
optimized to do--it never needs my help/interference!

rb

P.S., Does anyone else have an MTE/MPG "Mileage Boosting Steroid Circuit"
in their area? They might make an interesting new thread.

Carl, that's about where your MTE should be if you've been maintaining upper 30's MPG for a while. Those short high MPG readings help, but will not change your MTE averages that much. I think my MTE the fill prior to my breakdown and battery recall was in the 680's area. When I picked up my FEH, the Tech or SA must have reset my dash trip trying get my OD reading for the paperwork. The Nav System MPG average had been reset also, but that may have been caused by the battery disconnect. My mileage has dropped since I lost my long term fuel trim data, but after about 200 miles my Nav average MPG was over 45MPG. Even with 200 miles of >45mpg, my MTE was still only 539. In order for me to have a 640 MTE after my MTE data was reset, I'm sure I would have had to average well over 60mpg in that 200 miles.

My SG was unplugged when I got into my FEH after the repairs, but I lost no data when I plugged it back in. There's no way for me to know how far the readings on the SG were off because of all the idling that was done after they got my FEH running. Before resetting the SG tank at this last fill-up, my SG tank average was in the low 44mpg's.

Knowing what I've seen the past 3yrs with my MTE, it will take a few tanks to bring it into the 600's again. The last picture I put on my sig page of my MTE was 628 two yrs ago and I think I was averaging around 42MPG back then. It was finding out about neutral coasting that brought my MTE in the 700's during the cooler winter here. You must know by now how hard it is to have a 575 MTE during your hot summers. If you went more than 5 miles and got 83.6mph, you got a good idea of what it takes to beat my record at Hybridfest in a FWD FEH. Starting out with a full HV battery and a warm engine, I made it about 5 miles @ 94mpg according to the video. Things went south after that.

Try to rig up a 9V wire for the Tech to use when he does the battery recall work to keep your fuel trim and MTE data.

Since I've own my '05 FEH, I've never heard the HV battery fans running. After the recall work, I hear them all the time go on and off. They go off as soon as I go EV like clockwork. Not sure if this change is program related or the battery was not sealed properly when they put it back together. Anyone else notice the change or have always heard the noise from the fans?

They are quiet... but I defininitely hear my HV battery fans from time to time. Mines getting the recall done today.

My fans run every day, and I hear them all the time, even in 50'F weather they run after 10 miles of EV.

Maybe my ears are just better than yours?

Check your HV battery filter compartment. An open door and/or missing filter will increase the noise quite a bit.

Well, my recall is done. Once I buttoned up the back end (ie put the seats back up and put the carpet back down) it doesn't sound any different to me. I'm still evaluating any difference in MPG. Its hard to tell right now since the temperature jumped up to almost 90F.
