I just installed the FRDW PC POD2 and everything, for the most part, seems to be working properly. I need to tuck in the wires and figure out how to make it look pretty now. I was wondering if anyone had any luck with the playlists though. Is there a certain way to name them so that they work as a CD would? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

Here's how they work for the FRDW PC POD 1. I have mine setup this way and it works great.

NAMING OF PLAYLIST(S)
Once your iPod or iPod mini is connected to the P.I.E. VW-to-iPOD interface, the radio will see all the playlist(s) as CD's. The VW radio will allow a maximum of 6 CDs/playlist(s) (i.e., presets 1 - 6). Therefore, you will need to name your playlist(s) using the letters "CD" and the number corresponding to that preset. The following is an example of correct playlist(s) naming:
Preset #’s Piayftst(s) names
Preset1 “CD1_ _ _ _...”
Preset2 “CD2_ _ _ _...”
Preset3 “CD3_ _ _ _...”
Preset4 “CD4_ _ _ _...”
Preset5 “CD5_ _ _ _...”
Preset6 “CD6_ _ _ _...”

The name of the playlist must be exactly as shown. “CD” must be in capital letters, with no spaces present between letters “CD” and the corresponding number for that preset. The following are incorrect ways of naming a playlist:
Preset1 “C_D1_ _ _ _...”
Preset2 "CD_ _ _ _"
However, you may add text after the correct name as been assigned. The following are examples of correct playlist naming with additional test:
Preset1 “CD1 Bob’s Best Mix”
Preset2 “CD2 Rap”
Preset3 “CD3 Heavy Metal Bands”

I tried that naming system and it didn't work. It worked with the PIE interface on my old Jetta but it may be because this is the pod 2 version? Even the instruction sheets make no mention of playlists. It's not that bad though since you can control the actual iPod now. I'm happy to have the iPod in FEH.

Thanks

If anyone is interested I have a brand new PIE POD X3 and wiring harness that will fit any FEH with NAV system and 6 disc changer under the passenger seat. I bought it then found out about the PC POD which I ended up putting in mine.

The X3 still allows use of the CD Changer and 2 other input devices with a switch that allows you to handle the devices. For example, you could plug in your Ipod/MP3 player and a satellite radio and use the 3 way switch to select between CD, Ipod/MP3 or Satellite.

This is brand new still in the box. If interested shoot me an email hdbillp@comcast.net

Which PC POD did you get and how long did it take to install?

It takes maybe 5-10 minutes to install... easy. No tools. Just pull a wire connector accessible under the front passenger seat, toward the back seats, and plug in the PC-POD cable. Then route the cord under the seat and up to wherever you want the iPod.

Call me a newbie but where can you purchase this PC Pod and can you use the CD Changer with it?

Hi all, just a quick question about the difference between PIE POD X3 and PC POD. Isn't the POD X3 a "better" version that allows different inputs, so why did hdbillp change it from POD X3 to PC POD? Is there something wrong about POD X3 that I should know about?

PC-POD is an interface that controls the iPod, charges its battery, etc. It takes the place of your CD changer

X3 is an "audio switchbox" that simply allows you to switch between three inputs to appear on the CD changer input. It does not charge our iPod battery or control the iPod.
