John - please tell me more about this "MFD trick".

I gather that it is some sort of start-up diagnostics mode, but my searches of the Forums and FEH FAQ have not yet revealed what this is or how to achieve it.

thanks...

Before turning the key, press and hold the ODO reset button, then turn the key and wait till you see the word "test" on the green display. Then each single press of the button will provide new data. One is et or "engine temp".

It was kinda cool this morning and while stuck at the light at the end of my neighborhood I remembered to do the diagnostics. I drove all the way to work watching the water temp. Since it was kinda warm (mid 50's), EV worked pretty normally. When I EV'd into the parking lot the water temp was at about 60°C so I pulled into my space and sat there without turning on the key. The temp dropped pretty slowly so I put on the heater.

The water temp got to 51(°C) and held there for a few seconds and the ICE fired up. Looks like 125°F is the on point for the '05 - at least based on this one test.

Maybe intake air temp is the culprit......

Wow! There are a lot of displays in that!

Any key to what they all mean?

Is there any danger of resetting something important? I can see that some of these appear to be counting up or down pretty rapidly. Wouldn't want to press a button at an inopportune time and have something unfortunate happen as a result.

cheers...

PM me your email address and I will send you the file with what they all mean. I think John put it together originally.

I don't think there is anything resettable. It's strictly diagnostic. Pretty cool to watch too...

Default Kinda happy ending

I've been driving the company truck the last few days so it took a while until I needed gas. The tank came in at exactly 36 mpg. Not bad after all. We'll see how it goes from here as the weather gets colder. I'm hoping to at least stay in the mid 30's.

I freed up my other garage space (sold my gorgeous '65 'Stang ) so maybe having it out of the elements at night will help out a little. We shall see....

This quote is part of the original post from a month ago. Today driving home from my weekend drill it did the exact same thing, including not going into EV until I was backing in the driveway. The funny thing is it had gone EV a couple times while stopped in traffic earlier on the Mass Turnpike. Aggravating as hell but it no longer surprises me. Thanks to the heavy traffic I was actually able to improve the tank from a horrendous 31+ to over 33 on the 106 mile trip home. Hard to believe that heavy traffic would improve mileage....
