Default no start condition..

hello,
my son's 08 Ford Escape Hybrid. He is 800 miles away so cannot do any diagnosis/work on it from here. he called this evening to say it would start this morning but he figured out how to use the jump start button and it started. later in the day same issue. it did jump start and he drove home. My question is this typical of a dead or dying HB or is the 12 volt battery the issue. Vehicle has about 200k miles and i think he says the ICE runs more than it used to so i assume some HB battery weakness.

Next question, if it is the HB, is there a good replacement available these days?

Any wrench light?

A common occurrence is for one or more of the battery fans to fail, the battery gets warm, and the battery can't be charged in that condition, so it drops to a low state of charge and struggles to maintain adequate state of charge. Even overnight sitting can cause an old/weak battery to lose enough charge to not start.

Also, it could just be worn out.

Also, there could be some sort of parasitic draw.

ok, son has decided to "junk" the escape and buy a different car instead of putting more $ in this one. If anyone is looking for a 08 parts car or one that is otherwise sound except hybrid battery in southern Minnesota let me know
