That $10 gauge should work fine really, it's all in the placement of the sensor.

I have a $10 Radio Shack gauge in my camper(a small class C motorhome)& that works perfectly but I did try a bunch of different spots for the sensor.

I need to take a longer drive to really see how the $10 thermometer works. Dang them short drives in a smaller community!
