Arrow MPG Drop since getting Oil Change ???

I Got a 2008 Escape Hybrid some months ago , and ive calculated distance and MPG since ive had it ... ive always Run at average 31 MPG , i then got an oil change at Active Green|Ross which is a name company but it was Cheap $19.95 .... since then , last 3 calculations have been 28MPG , im In Canada and i know being colder decreases Mileage but i just find it funny that right after the oil change im doing 3MPG worse , could it be the Cheap Oil they Put in or something else or is it just that the colder weather is here and the MPG is just gonna go down no matter what ???

A 10% drop in fuel economy due to weather is not unusual. The oil if heavier viscosity will increase friction but not as much as the cold on aero drag, tires, and running gear.

It sounds to me that you got an overfill of oil. Check the dipstick after 15 minutes and if the oil level is not in the middle of Full and Add mark, you need to drain the oil to that level. If the level is above the full mark, you can damage the engine. The '08 FEH takes 4.5 quarts with a filter change, but some fools will not change the filter or even add an even 5 quarts. Document what you find with a video if you have been screwed for future problems.

Well, today I got a free oil change in my '11 Explorer and my MPG dropped also. First thing I thought was the dealer added to much oil also. It wasn't that, I had the Max sidewall tire pressure of 51psi in my Hankook tires before the oil change, but they lowered the pressure to 35psi and one was even 30psi. This dropped my MPG down 5 MPG. I went ahead and raised the tire pressure to 55psi and the problem was solved and maybe even a little better than at 51psi. I filled-up this morning and had a 24.293mpg tank in that Explorer with A/C on the entire tank. I love that car!

So check your tire pressure also!
