Default Key hard in insert

So I stopped by Ford today to ask what it would cost to replace the Tumbler Assembly. When I try to insert my key it feels like the little door is not moving out of the way.
Service writer said the WHOLE swtich assay. needed to be replaced. ????
The lock does not have anything to do with the switch until it is fully inserted.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks Mark.

Try a shot of graphite based lock lubricant before replacing anything.

Personally I usually WD 40 instead of graphite. I spray quite a bit into the lock and then put key in and out several times to clean the lock out.

Mine has the same problem, and has since I bought it 2yrs ago. I'll see if I can fix it this weekend and post results. BTW everyone's vehicle type shows up in the top right of their posts. :-D

I replaced my cylinder last weekend. I ordered it from a lock company in New York ( http://www.safeandlockstore.com/). I sent them a picture of my key and they set the tumblers for me. Excellent customer service and extremely fast turn around. I installed my new cylinder in about 10 min and it cost less than $40. Keep that in mind if none of the lubes work.
