Insulating the High Voltage Battery?

Insulating the High Voltage Battery?
Can I ask a goofy question? New to Hybrids.
Would there be any benefit to insulating the battery pack in the cargo area. (external insulation to the batt case)
Here is my goofy mindset. During extremely cold days, or even super hot days. The battery would be less susceptible to temperature swings. So on hot days, while the car is parked all day, the battery would not heat up as much, (and the opposite for cool days) and possibly not need to activate its internal temp control ventilation system.
Would this help to reduce battery's need to engage the internal cooling/heating system and possible reduce electric load?
Another area of concern:
The cargo area carpet in my MMH slides all over the place. There is no protection from spills, save for the metal casing the battery is in. I saw a post in which the newer ones have better "spill" control under the carpet. That, along with a Husky liner is a good thing. Can I get a battery cover for my 06 that goes under the carpet?
I carry water, dogs, and hiking/camping gear and more protection would set my mind at ease.
Thanks
Chris

Re: Insulating the High Voltage Battery?
External insulation will do no good at all.
External heaters or warming blankets, equally useless.
As the battery pack is already well insulated... any heating or cooling needs to come via the air vent on the side.

Re: Insulating the High Voltage Battery?
Thanks for the replies. I wasn't looking to add external heat/cool as it has it's own climate control, just insulate the case to prevent ambient temperatures from affecting the battery pack.
Thanks for sharing that the pack is "well insulated". I couldn't tell from the pics online. Looks like the engineers already thought of insulating the packs, so I won't have to.
Years of being an engineering technician, too many questions...
Thanks again,
Chris
