I guess that answered my question: did the 07 FEH/MMH changed in regards to the air duct assembly such that the 02-06 air filter does not fit anymore?

Anyone wants a free 04-06 cabin air filter?

Hey, I have one too. I suppose I'm more annoyed by Ford secrecy than our more cynical members, who seem to take corporate misbehavior for granted. In the best of all possible worlds I would expect a first-class company to say "hey, we goofed, could happen to anyone, we'll order a run of filters at MERV 10 (or whatever), and you can have them to fill the empty hole we left in the car (without bothering to tell you about that either)." Remember that the actual cost of a filter is a buck or so.

Since you are giving away your filter, then can I assume you have confirmed that the 04-06 filter will not fit in an '07?

I've confirmed that it does not fit my 07 MMH.

Anyone with an 07 FEH (or FE) can chime in about the cabin air filter changes in 07 that makes the 06 filter not fit?

I might try to cut the filter I have to the shape of the duct in my 07. If I'm successful, I'll post some pics....as well as compare airflow (there's a cabin air filter air flow thread floating around here also, I think - [edit add commnet] dorky me, the airflow thread is the same thread...duh...).

I ordered the cabin air filter from www.fordaccessories.com. Their product images shows a trapezoid shape filter. I specified that mine was a 2007 FEH and even gave them my VIN, but they still sent me the Motorcraft FP51 which is rectangular.

This is quite frustrating. Does anyone have the correct part number for the 2007 filter?

I will probably keep the FP51 because it can still be used as the rear battery AC filter.

They didn't even give you the right filter for a 2006 or 2005. The battery filter is completely different from the cabin air filter.

I am a newbie to the forum. I just picked up a 2007 FEH last Tuesday. I went back to the dealer to get the filter for the cabin air cleaner. They only had the one for the 05 and 06 model. The parts guy called Ford while I was standing there and explained to them that the customer states the 2007 has a different shape. They of course told him that the rectangle was the correct one for the 2007. I opened the unit on the FEH and it is the new shape. I took a picture with my digital camera and showed the parts guy and he gave me the filter for a Mercury Sable. The filter fits and is shaped correctly. There is one weird thing. In the picture on this post you will notice the plastic "legs" that are around the opening of the vent. These legs seem to prevent the filter from sitting flush on the opening. This will allow the air to flow around and under the filter. This might be how Ford dealt with the low air flow problem that the 05 and 06 owners were compaining about. If that is correct then the filter is useless and air is getting into the cabin un-filtered. Since the part I tried was not exactly correct I would like to see the exact part for the 2007 before making more judgements. It does seems that Ford is poor in communicating the new parts to the dealers.

Today I received the replacement - a MotorCraft FP49 which is rectangular.

I told them clearly the opening was a trapezoid. It is unbelievable.

No one should believe the unbelievable, unless it happens to be true. Have you considered the possibility that they don't have the foggiest notion what a trapezoid is? The schools these days are pretty weak on geometry. A trapezoid might be a lizard from the island of Trap.

Good point. I guess they don't know what a rectangle is, either, because I told them it was not rectangular.

Anyway, I cut the FP49 and put it in. It is not long enough, and the wide end is not wide enough, so I folded some paper towel and wrapped it around the edge with duct tape. It is tacky, but that part of the car (including the lid and the screen) looks cheap anyway.

When it was open I turned the air flow selection dial to Recirculated A/C. I saw the door behind the glove box flipped up. Too bad there is not enough space above the blower, otherwise I will put a filter there to filter both inside and outside air.
