How long til VIN is generated?

How long til VIN is generated?

How long after my order can I expect the VIN number to be generated and can expect to get that number?

You should be able to get the VIN about 4 weeks before the vehicle is built.

Thanks, so MAYBE 4 weeks after the order is sent to Ford?

From what I have been reading, it might be more like 8 to 12 weeks after the order is sent to Ford (for a total of 12 to 16 weeks).

I'm hoping (for my sake) that orders are at a low this time of year and there will be less of a wait.
But from what I am reading on this forum, it will be well worth the wait.

Ordered my FEH on October 10th. Dealer checked on November 23rd and found that I had been assigned a VIN.

Hmmm, that's good news - I'll have to go and bug my dealer in a month or so. I'd like to get the paper work started on the federal tax credit.

I was hoping to take advantage of the $3000 tax credit in 2007, but it looks like it will be 2008.

As you probably know, the IRS is only concerned with "date placed into service". So, if the FEH isn't delivered to you until 2008, you won't be able to claim the tax credit until you file your 2008 return.

If I read correctly, the current tax credit is an extension of the original limited date.
